Build on Hyperliquid: the developer hub

The four ways to talk to Hyperliquid, their limits, the SDKs worth using, and our tested guides.

Short answer

Hyperliquid has four public interfaces: the info endpoint (POST api.hyperliquid.xyz/info, free, no key), the signed exchange endpoint for trading, a WebSocket at wss://api.hyperliquid.xyz/ws, and HyperEVM JSON-RPC (chain ID 999). Each IP gets 1,200 request weight per minute; most reads cost 2 or 20. The official SDK is hyperliquid-python-sdk, and Hyperliquid's docs also list community SDKs for TypeScript and Rust, plus CCXT.

The four APIs

  • Info endpoint POST https://api.hyperliquid.xyz/info Read markets, prices, order books, candles, funding and any address's positions, orders and fills. Auth: None · Our guide · Docs
  • Exchange endpoint POST https://api.hyperliquid.xyz/exchange Place, modify and cancel orders; transfers, withdrawals, approvals, staking. Auth: Signed by the wallet or an API wallet · Our guide · Docs
  • WebSocket wss://api.hyperliquid.xyz/ws Stream trades, books, candles and per-address fills and orders. Can also carry info requests and signed actions. Auth: None to read · Our guide · Docs
  • HyperEVM JSON-RPC https://rpc.hyperliquid.xyz/evm Standard Ethereum JSON-RPC for the HyperEVM, chain ID 999. Latest-block state only on the public node. Auth: None · Our guide · Docs

Everything on HyperCore (the exchange) goes through the first three. The HyperEVM is the smart-contract side of the same chain; contracts there can read and trade HyperCore through precompiles and CoreWriter. The info endpoint allows cross-origin calls (access-control-allow-origin: *, checked 4 November 2026), so browser apps can call it directly. Hyperliquid also publishes bulk historical data in S3 buckets, such as the daily builder-fills files; the docs recommend those over the explorer API for large backfills.

Guides

Each guide was written against the live API on 4 November 2026. The responses shown are real.

Rate limits

Hyperliquid limits by IP address and, for trading actions, by address. These are the documented values (rate limits and user limits, read 4 November 2026).

Per IP address

LimitValue
HTTP requests (info + exchange)1,200 weight per minute
Weight 2l2Book, allMids, clearinghouseState, orderStatus, spotClearinghouseState, exchangeStatus
Weight 60userRole
Weight 20every other documented info request
Extra weight+1 per 20 items returned by history requests (recentTrades, userFills, fundingHistory…); +1 per 60 candles
Exchange actions1 + floor(batch length / 40), so a 79-order batch weighs 2
Explorer requests40 each
WebSocket10 connections, 30 new per minute, 1,000 subscriptions, 10 unique users, 2,000 messages sent per minute, 100 in-flight posts
HyperEVM RPC (rpc.hyperliquid.xyz/evm)100 requests per minute

So one IP can poll allMids about 600 times a minute, but a weight-20 request only 60 times. If you need to watch many markets or accounts, use the WebSocket.

Per address (trading actions)

RuleValue
Action budget1 request per 1 USDC traded since the address was created, plus a starting buffer of 10,000 requests
When rate limitedOne request every 10 seconds
CancelsA higher cap, min(limit + 100,000, limit × 2), so you can always pull orders
Open orders1,000, plus 1 per $5M of volume, up to 5,000
BatchesOne request for the IP limit, n requests for the address limit
Applies toActions only, not info requests. Sub-accounts count as separate users.

During congestion, each address may use at most twice its previous day's share of maker volume in block space. Batching orders and cancels reduces your weight. Check how much of an address's budget is used with {"type":"userRateLimit","user":"0x…"}.

SDKs

Hyperliquid recommends using an SDK for anything that signs, because hand-rolled signatures fail in confusing ways (signing). "Listed" means the SDK appears on Hyperliquid's API docs page. Versions and licenses were checked on GitHub, PyPI and npm on 4 November 2026.

The hyperliquid-dex GitHub organization also hosts a Rust SDK, hyperliquid-rust-sdk, last updated in October 2025. Hyperliquid's API page now points Rust users to Infinite Field's hypersdk instead. We haven't audited any of these libraries. Pin versions, read the code that signs, and test on testnet before you trust any SDK with funds.

Testnet

  • API: https://api.hyperliquid-testnet.xyz (same /info and /exchange paths). WebSocket: wss://api.hyperliquid-testnet.xyz/ws. App: app.hyperliquid-testnet.xyz.
  • HyperEVM testnet: chain ID 998, RPC https://rpc.hyperliquid-testnet.xyz/evm.
  • Mock USDC: 1,000 from the official faucet, only for addresses that have deposited on mainnet. If you sign in with email, your testnet address differs from mainnet (testnet faucet).
  • IDs differ. HYPE is token 150 and spot pair 107 on mainnet, but token 1105 and spot pair 1035 on testnet (asset IDs).

Free data from UnderHyper

If you only need clean numbers, you may not need the API at all. Every UnderHyper dataset is rebuilt from the Hyperliquid info API about every 2 hours. Each carries its as-of time and downloads as JSON or CSV under CC BY 4.0:

AI agents can query the same numbers through our read-only MCP server at https://underhyper.com/mcp. It needs no key and has 5 tools, including market snapshots, funding and HIP-3 dexes. Looking for a block explorer or an analytics site instead? See Hyperliquid explorers compared.

Before you trade from code

  • Keep your main key off servers. Trade with an API wallet. It can't withdraw, but it can still trade the account to zero.
  • No one legitimate needs your seed phrase. Fake "API key generators", airdrop checkers and support DMs are common (scams to avoid).
  • Leverage cuts both ways. Bots fail in ways people don't: stale data, a retry loop, a price in the wrong units. Start on testnet, then small, with a scheduled cancel (dead man's switch) set.
  • Where you may trade. Hyperliquid's terms restrict users in the United States, Ontario and other places. Trading through code doesn't change that (details).

Questions people ask

Does Hyperliquid have an API?

Yes. A free public HTTP API at api.hyperliquid.xyz (POST /info to read, POST /exchange for signed trading actions), a WebSocket at wss://api.hyperliquid.xyz/ws, and JSON-RPC for the HyperEVM at rpc.hyperliquid.xyz/evm. Reading needs no key.

What is the Hyperliquid API rate limit?

1,200 weight per minute per IP for HTTP requests. l2Book, allMids and clearinghouseState weigh 2, userRole 60, and other info requests 20. Trading actions are also limited per address: 1 request per 1 USDC traded, after a starting buffer of 10,000.

Is there an official Hyperliquid SDK?

The official SDK is hyperliquid-python-sdk (pip install hyperliquid-python-sdk, version 0.24.0 on 4 November 2026). Hyperliquid's docs also link community SDKs: nktkas/hyperliquid and nomeida/hyperliquid for TypeScript, Infinite Field's hypersdk for Rust, and CCXT.

Does Hyperliquid have a testnet?

Yes. The API is at https://api.hyperliquid-testnet.xyz, the app at app.hyperliquid-testnet.xyz and the HyperEVM is chain ID 998. The faucet gives 1,000 mock USDC to addresses that have deposited on mainnet.
