How to move funds between HyperCore and HyperEVM

Same address, same blockchain, two balances. Moving between them takes one button and a little HYPE for gas.

Short answer

Click Transfer to/from EVM in the Balances table (Trade or Portfolio page), or EVM <-> Core Transfer at the top of the Portfolio page. Moving from HyperCore to the HyperEVM costs gas in HYPE from your Spot balance; moving back costs gas in HYPE on the HyperEVM. To see funds in a wallet, add network chain ID 999, RPC https://rpc.hyperliquid.xyz/evm, currency HYPE.

Two layers, one address

Hyperliquid is one blockchain with two parts:

  • HyperCore is the trading engine: perps, spot order books, your spot and perps balances, staking and vaults. This is what you see on the Trade and Portfolio pages.
  • The HyperEVM is an Ethereum-compatible smart-contract environment on the same chain. Independent teams build apps there, such as lending markets, swaps and liquid staking. Hyperliquid’s docs describe it as “a fully functional EVM of its own”.

Your address (the 0x… string) is the same on both, but each layer keeps its own balances. Hyperliquid’s support guide stresses that HyperEVM apps “are from independent teams”, so questions about a specific app go to that team.

You only need to move funds if you want to use a HyperEVM app, or if funds have arrived on the HyperEVM (from a bridge or an exchange) and you want to trade them.

Before you start: get some HYPE

Both directions cost gas, and gas is paid in HYPE:

DirectionGas paid inFrom where
HyperCore → HyperEVMHYPEYour HyperCore Spot balance
HyperEVM → HyperCoreHYPEYour HyperEVM balance

If you have none, buy a small amount on Hyperliquid’s spot market (see how to buy HYPE). A transfer from HyperCore to the HyperEVM uses 200,000 gas at the HyperEVM’s base gas price, per the developer docs; the app shows the cost before you confirm.

Step 1: Add the HyperEVM to your wallet

So your wallet can show HyperEVM balances, add the network. Use chainlist.org/chain/999, or add it by hand with Add Custom Network:

FieldValue
Network nameHyperliquid
Chain ID999
RPC URLhttps://rpc.hyperliquid.xyz/evm
Currency symbolHYPE
Block explorer (optional)https://hyperevmscan.io/ or https://www.hyperscan.com/

Rabby supports the HyperEVM as a built-in network, which Hyperliquid’s docs suggest if your wallet struggles with custom networks.

Step 2: Move funds from HyperCore to the HyperEVM

  1. On app.hyperliquid.xyz, open the Trade or Portfolio page.
  2. In the Balances table, click Transfer to/from EVM next to the token (or click EVM <-> Core Transfer at the top of the Portfolio page).
  3. Choose the direction (to EVM), the token and the amount.
  4. Confirm. Gas is taken in HYPE from your Spot balance.

Hyperliquid’s docs say transfers from HyperCore to the HyperEVM are queued until the next HyperEVM block, so they arrive shortly after. HYPE arrives as the native gas token; other tokens arrive as their linked ERC-20 contract.

Only tokens whose issuer has linked a HyperEVM contract can move. USDC does: Circle’s USDC contract on the HyperEVM is 0xb88339cb7199b77e23db6e890353e22632ba630f.

Step 3: Move funds back to HyperCore

  1. Make sure you have a little HYPE on the HyperEVM for gas.
  2. Use the same Transfer to/from EVM button and choose the direction to Core (Spot).
  3. Confirm in your wallet; it’s an EVM transaction on chain 999.

Transfers from the HyperEVM to HyperCore are processed in the same block, right after the HyperEVM block is built.

The HYPE-only shortcut (and why to avoid it for other tokens)

Hyperliquid’s docs say you can also move HYPE by sending it to the address 0x2222222222222222222222222222222222222222, from either side. This only works for HYPE. Each other token has its own system address, and sending a different asset to the HYPE address will lose it. Use the button.

Seeing a token in your wallet

If a token is on the HyperEVM but your wallet doesn’t show it, add it as a custom token. On the Trade page, the info bar for a spot asset has a wallet icon next to its contract that adds it for you. Or copy the contract address from a HyperEVM explorer and add it manually.

Common mistakes

  • Clicking “Transfer to/from EVM” by accident. Funds aren’t lost; they’re on the HyperEVM side. Move them back (you’ll need HYPE there for gas; if you moved something other than HYPE, buy HYPE on spot and move a little across first).
  • Expecting ETH to pay gas. On the HyperEVM, gas is HYPE.
  • Sending a non-HYPE token to 0x2222…2222. It’s lost.
  • Sending HYPE on the HyperEVM to an exchange that only supports HyperCore. Hyperliquid’s docs say to confirm with the exchange first, because some support HYPE on HyperCore but not on the HyperEVM. Always do a test transaction.
  • Assuming HyperEVM tokens and HyperCore tokens are always interchangeable. The developer docs warn not to “blindly assume accurate fungibility”; stick to the app’s transfer button.

If something goes wrong

  • MetaMask error “Invalid transaction envelope type… included a gasPrice”: Hyperliquid’s docs call this a known MetaMask issue and suggest a different wallet such as Rabby.
  • Gas keeps spiking: the HyperEVM launched with intentionally limited throughput, and gas rises when demand exceeds block space. Waiting usually helps.
  • Ledger shows “Transfer Failed” on the HyperEVM: update Ledger’s software and firmware.
  • Funds are still missing: check your address on hyperevmscan.io or hyperscan.com for the HyperEVM side, and the Portfolio page for HyperCore. For a specific HyperEVM app, contact that app’s team.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between HyperCore and HyperEVM?

They're two parts of the same Hyperliquid blockchain. HyperCore holds the order books, perps, spot balances and staking; the HyperEVM is an Ethereum-style smart-contract environment where independent apps (lending, swaps, vaults) run. Your address is the same on both, but the balances are separate.

What is the HyperEVM chain ID?

999. Hyperliquid's docs give the network name Hyperliquid, RPC URL https://rpc.hyperliquid.xyz/evm and currency symbol HYPE. Block explorers include hyperevmscan.io and hyperscan.com.

I clicked Transfer to EVM by accident. Are my funds lost?

No. They moved to the HyperEVM side of your address. Use Transfer to/from EVM again to bring them back; you'll need a little HYPE on the HyperEVM for gas.

Why does my wallet say I don't have enough ETH for gas on HyperEVM?

Gas on the HyperEVM is paid in HYPE, not ETH. That error usually means the network wasn't added correctly; re-add it with chain ID 999 and currency HYPE, or use a wallet like Rabby that supports HyperEVM natively.
