How to deposit Bitcoin to Hyperliquid

Real bitcoin, on the Bitcoin network, to a deposit address in the Hyperliquid app. No wrapping or bridges to pick, but the minimum and the network both matter.

Short answer

Click Deposit on app.hyperliquid.xyz, choose BTC, and send native BTC on the Bitcoin network to the address shown. Unit, an independent team, runs it. The minimum is 0.0003 BTC (less is lost) and deposits take about 30 minutes. Your BTC arrives as a spot token (Unit Bitcoin, UBTC) that you can hold, sell for USDC on the UBTC/USDC market, or withdraw back to a Bitcoin address.

How Bitcoin gets onto Hyperliquid

Hyperliquid can’t hold bitcoin on the Bitcoin blockchain itself. Instead, an independent team called Unit runs deposit addresses on Bitcoin (and on Ethereum, Solana and a few other chains). When you send BTC to your Unit address, Unit credits you the same amount of a Hyperliquid spot token, which the API lists as Unit Bitcoin (UBTC). When you withdraw, the token is taken back and Unit sends real BTC to your Bitcoin address.

That makes the route simple to use, but it adds a party you’re trusting: Unit holds the actual bitcoin. Hyperliquid’s support guide states plainly that “Unit is an independent team”, and failed deposits go to Unit’s support, not Hyperliquid’s. We couldn’t access Unit’s own documentation from our systems to verify its custody model, so read it at docs.hyperunit.xyz before you deposit a large amount. Our safety guide covers how this fits with Hyperliquid’s other risks.

Step by step

  1. Open app.hyperliquid.xyz and connect your wallet or log in with email.
  2. Click Deposit and choose BTC.
  3. Copy the Bitcoin address shown (or scan the QR code). Check the first and last few characters after pasting. This address is tied to your Hyperliquid account.
  4. Send at least 0.0003 BTC from your Bitcoin wallet or exchange, choosing the Bitcoin network (sometimes labelled “BTC” or “Bitcoin mainnet” on exchanges). For your first deposit, send a small test amount above the minimum.
  5. Wait about 30 minutes. Bitcoin needs block confirmations before Unit credits you.
  6. Find it in your spot balance. The UBTC token appears under your balances.

What you can do with it

  • Hold it. UBTC sits in your spot balance like any other token.
  • Sell it for USDC to trade perps. The UBTC/USDC spot market is the main pair; the API also lists UBTC/USDH. Spot fees at the entry tier are 0.070% taker and 0.040% maker, and the minimum order is $10. On a $1,000 sale, the taker fee is $0.70 before the 4% referral discount.
  • Use it as collateral under portfolio margin. Hyperliquid’s portfolio margin mode lists HYPE, BTC, USDC and USDT as eligible assets. It’s described as the most capital-efficient mode, which also means a falling BTC price can reduce the margin backing your positions. Most newcomers are better off in unified account mode, which Hyperliquid’s docs recommend for most users.
  • Trade BTC perps instead. If you only want price exposure, you don’t need to deposit BTC at all: BTC perps on Hyperliquid are margined in USDC. See your first perp trade.

Getting BTC back out

To withdraw, use Withdraw on app.hyperliquid.xyz, choose BTC and enter a Bitcoin address you control. Your withdrawal shows in the Portfolio page’s Deposits & Withdrawals table with a status of Pending, Completed or Failed. Never use Send for this: Send only moves tokens to another Hyperliquid address. See how to withdraw.

We couldn’t verify Unit’s current withdrawal minimum or fee for BTC. The withdrawal window shows both before you confirm.

Common mistakes

  • Sending wrapped BTC (WBTC, cbBTC, BTCB or BTC on a non-Bitcoin network). Hyperliquid’s support guide says BTC sent on another network can’t currently be retrieved.
  • Sending less than 0.0003 BTC. Below the minimum, funds are lost.
  • Withdrawing from an exchange on the wrong network. Many exchanges default to cheaper networks. Choose Bitcoin explicitly.
  • Reusing an address you copied from somewhere else. Always copy the address from your own deposit window.
  • Panicking after 10 minutes. About 30 minutes is normal; longer when the Bitcoin network is busy.

If something goes wrong

  • The deposit shows “Failed” but you sent native BTC on the Bitcoin network above the minimum: contact the Unit team at app.hyperunit.xyz/support.
  • Nothing shows after an hour: check the transaction on a Bitcoin block explorer. If it’s still unconfirmed, it’s waiting for the Bitcoin network, not Hyperliquid.
  • Withdrawal shows “Failed”: Hyperliquid’s support guide points to Unit’s Telegram group (t.me/hyperunit) for BTC, ETH and SOL withdrawals.
  • Anyone DMs offering to “recover” your BTC: it’s a scam. See scams to avoid.

Questions people ask

Can you deposit Bitcoin on Hyperliquid?

Yes. The deposit window on app.hyperliquid.xyz shows a Bitcoin address run by Unit. Send native BTC on the Bitcoin network, minimum 0.0003 BTC; it takes about 30 minutes and arrives as UBTC in your spot balance.

What is UBTC on Hyperliquid?

UBTC is how Hyperliquid's API lists Unit Bitcoin: the spot token you receive when you deposit BTC through Unit. It trades against USDC and USDH on Hyperliquid's spot market and can be withdrawn back to a Bitcoin address through Unit.

Can I use Bitcoin as margin for perps on Hyperliquid?

Hyperliquid's portfolio margin mode lists BTC, HYPE, USDC and USDT as eligible collateral. In other modes, sell your BTC for USDC to use it as perps margin. Portfolio margin has extra requirements and risks; read Hyperliquid's docs before switching.

I sent BTC on another network (wrapped BTC). Can I get it back?

Hyperliquid's support guide says BTC sent on any network other than Bitcoin can't currently be retrieved. Only native BTC on the Bitcoin network works.
